Parking tickets suck. They are just a flat out waste of money. We get them for the silliest reasons--only having a dime, misreading a permit parking sign, or oversleeping on street cleaning day. Since those things happen, you may as well start out ahead by knowing the rules. We've scoured the internet and put together a primer so you know to park here, not there.
Unemployment can be a stressful experience whether you're new to it or not. You have questions like "Where is the money going to come from for rent, cell phone, cable, internet, car insurance, student loans, utilities... and of course, food?" Like many life situations, unemployment can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. You can beat the unemployment blues when they hit with a few adjustments.
As our name suggests, we at RentFoodBroke are very aware of the precariousness of our current situation. There are many in our city who, for a myriad of reasons, do not have homes. Recently, we were lucky enough to spend some time with Tina Hovsepian, inventor and founder of Cardborigami. An architect, Tina developed a temporary, portable shelter to try and provide some respite for those without permanent structures. She generously agreed to share some of her thoughts and experiences in downtown's Skid Row. The following is what she shared:
Happy 2012 everyone! We've decided this is our year of abundance: money, friends, and good ideas (not necessarily in that order). To kick this year off in that spirit, we've worked together with awesome RFB aficionado Claudia Cooper to share her list of most appreciated resources (thanks for sharing, Claudia!). Read on to learn about free DVD rentals, saving on groceries, and more.
Homeless, Jobless, and Poor pretty much describes about every recent graduate that makes the big haul out to L.A. to start living the Beautiful Life. But just like the CW show tanked, moving out to LA can be equally as terrible (well, maybe not that bad). So let me dispense a little hard-won advice equally useful for a transplant or a native in transition.
My girlfriend and I tend to go to the movies in waves, so for these past four weekends we've been inspired by Warrior (5 stars, 4 thumbs up, we both loved it! Go see it and get motivated!!), MoneyBall (4.5 stars, 3.5 thumbs up, very solid, talk about creatively stretching a buck) and 50/50 (4.5 stars, 3.5 thumbs up, great performances, honest). We capped it off this movie spurt with Real Steel (Rocky with robots and I love Hugh Jackman, also it came out on my birthday...kismet!). More to the point, we didn't sign up for a paid reward program to save on this movie marathon. Here's why we're not fans.
Before you buy, get quotes and brush up on your negotiating technique. My mom used to tell me to let my fingers do the walking and call places before driving around to see if they had what you were looking for. The same thing goes with cars. Online quotes are your golden ticket to the best deal.
