Unemployment can be a stressful experience whether you're new to it or not. You have questions like "Where is the money going to come from for rent, cell phone, cable, internet, car insurance, student loans, utilities... and of course, food?" Like many life situations, unemployment can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. You can beat the unemployment blues when they hit with a few adjustments.
Though in some areas we've made strides, with the tragic shooting of 15-year-old Larry King back in the news, and the not so distant memory of the rash of teen suicides, we're reminded that even in this day and age, growing up gay can be tough. I have compiled a brief listing of GLBTQ resources which include everything from mental health referrals to online support and social groups in the greater Los Angeles area. Though it's common to associate Memorial Day with BBQs and sleeping in, it has a much less light-hearted origin. We know you're eating right and exercising regularly, but when that nasty cough just won't go away and last night's hookup had some weird bumps you know where you probably need to consult a medical professional. Whether you lost your health insurance last year with your job or just can't afford the inflated rates, you have options for free doctor visits. Ignoring it won't make it go away (though we've been known to try that curative method), so check out these low-cost and free LA medical services and make an appointment.

Going back to school can be a big financial investment. We've already gone through application costs, so now we'll turn our attention to some of the big ticket items of attendance. Though these expenses can be significant, they should not deter you from enrollment. The whole point of gathering this information is to make school do-able for you. With a little preparation, you can budget better (or even get scholarships!) for an over-all less stressful experience.
It goes without saying that when you're feeling yucky enough or worried enough to make it to the doctor, you're somewhat unlikely to be in the mood for all those forms and questionnaires. If you're at the doctor, though, you know it's important to take care of your health. So give it your best shot. You are your own best ally at the doctor's office. Obviously they are there to help you, but with a little effort on your part, you could get a lot more help. We've got some tips for getting the most out of your visit.
