Happy Halloween everyone! We hope you're planning on doing something fun (and cheap) tonight. Maybe check out the West Hollywood Carnaval or Booo-tiful Downtown Burbank? October 31st can be a lot of fun, but we're actually more excited about November 1. There are some pretty cool month-long events that kick off tomorrow like NaNoWriMo and Movember.
NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month aka November. The goal is to--you guessed it--write a novel in one month. It's super ambitious, potentially insane, and always amazing to attempt to commit your great idea to paper in just one month. There are already over 7,000 people in LA signed up for this sprint. It can be an amazing way to push yourself to get those thoughts out or network over marathon group-writing sessions. The Office of Light and Letters runs it and they offer tons of free resources to help you make the deadline. Check out their LA page to find out a kick off party tonight.
Movember is all about growing a moustache to raise awareness about men's health issues like prostate cancer. Kick your month off with a free shave at The Art of Shaving (don't forget to RSVP) and then let those whiskers sprout. This is also a fundraising push so if you get your peeps to open up their pockets you can win prizes, but even if you don't bring in the dough you can win for a best-in-show. And ladies, don't feel left out because you can't be a Mo Bro. You can be a Mo Sista and get invoved with the Mo Community.
And, in case those two don't do it for you, November is special to a lot of groups (and fruits!). You can probably figure out how celebrate International Drum Month and National Pomegranate Month. Or perhaps you prefer Native American Heritage Month or National Homeless Youth Awareness Month? In the horrible betrayals of the body realm, November is big as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, COPD Awareness month, Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month, American Diabetes Month, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and Crohn's & Ulcerative Colitis Awareness Month. The winner, however, comes from the Roman Catholic Church: November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Bam.
And if you're still not impressed, just hold out for turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving.
