Summer days are long and wonderful (hopefully), but also pose the challenge of heat. Standing in front of your freezer all day probably isn't the best option because it costs way too much and, oh yeah, you can't move away. Though we won't be installing AC for you, we do have some good tips for staying safe out there.
Stay Hydrated: This is super important. If you're outside, your thirst will be an obvious indicator. But, when the temperature soars, air conditioners often get cranked. While this may prevent unsightly pit stains, you'll still be needing more water than average. Don't let the fans fool you, your body is craving H2O. If you're not super into drinking water, try adding some flavor packets to heighten the appeal. Or, consider snacking on waterlogged fruits like ... watermelon (the name says it all). Stick grapes or strawberries in the freezer for quick frozen hydrating treats.
Stay Skin Friendly: You've read all about our skin care tips, but here's a quick reminder about the basics. Put on a sunscreen and a hat if you're planning on spending time outdoors. Sunglasses with good UV protection are also important for bright reflective sun situations (think pool or beach). Stay protected from nasty things like sunspots and melanoma (translation: skin cancer). Way too expensive to treat.
Get Out of the Sun: Heat is a serious force of nature. If you're outside, try to stay in the shade. Find a tree or build your own with a handy umbrella. Of course it's expected that the outdoors will be toasty, but if you're sadly lacking AC, head out. LA is full of malls, movie theaters, libraries and other public air-conditioned spaces. Sweltering is more appropriate for a sauna than your living room. Getting heatstroke is bad. Avoid it.
