Grand Ole Echo: Fat Man and Little Boy: The Atomic Duo

The Grand Ole Echo returns! Country music & Sunday Barbeque every Sunday through the spring and summer. Performing this week is Fat Man and Little Boy: The Atomic Duo, the new act from Mark Rubin of the Bad Livers. Also on the bill are LA favorites Welldiggers Banquet, and from Nashville, what CMT calls "the new fresh face of Americana," Allen Thompson. On the backporch is Lewis and Means, another bluegrass duo.

Mark Rubin was trailed recently by a German documentary crew as part of his expansive Other Europeans project, which has alternatively influenced his local work with Silas Lowe as Fat Man & Little Boy. The band's grassroots debut, The Atomic Duo, knocks the dust off a few ragtime traditionals. "I became more focused about what it is about American music that makes it important, that core repertoire of sound that existed particularly in the South," relays Rubin to the Austin Chronicle.
