You know it's funny, cuz at work they call me "the vampire" because I'm a Jew that leaves early on Fridays. Now, why one means the other, I'm not quite sure, but I certainly did get a kick out of the fact that the 1967 Roman Polanski film, THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS, is screening as part of the Skirball's Classic Films: Jews on Celluloid series.

Polanski wrote, directed, and costarred with wife Sharon Tate in perhaps the first vampire comedy. The Fearless Vampire Killers is most memorable for the character of Shagal (the Jewish Vampire) and is a tongue- (and fang-) in-cheek look at many issues of the day. (1967, 108 min. No MPAA rating.)
